Raven X interview with Metal Remains
MR: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC?
Nÿx: We have been asked this question a lot. Raven X definitely has many different feels and we try not to exclude anything. We didn't want it to be only heavy or only melodic. We describe our genre of music as "Gothic Death Metal".
MR: WHICH BANDS HAVE INSPIRED YOU WITH YOUR MUSIC?
Khâos: My influences are very wide in range. I listen to everything from Black Metal to Classical to Shoegaze. I would say some of my main influences are Ihsahn, Steven Wilson, Mozart and Back Sabbath. I think a little of everything I listen to has an influence on my song writing, but my main objective is to play what I feel within.
Nÿx: There are so many bands/musicians that inspire me. Karyn Crisis (Crisis), Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy), Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth), Ihsahn (Emperor) …the list goes on and on.
MR: HOW DID THE BAND GET IT'S NAME?
Nÿx: Raven X was originally the name of the girl in the song "Immortal Beloved" who loved her man so much that she never wanted him to leave her. So, she killed him and buried him in the backyard. The girl got her name from the combination of the words "Raven" meaning "black" and the letter "X" standing for a "kiss" at the end of a love letter. Together the words translate to the "kiss of death" which describes the girls actions in the song. We decided that we really like the name, so we decided to use it as the band name.
MR: WHO DOES THE WRITING FOR THE BAND?
Khâos: Nÿx writes all of the lyrics and performs all of the vocals. I write all of music and perform all of the instruments. I also handle all of the production work for Raven X.
MR: WHAT IS THE BAND CURRENTLY WORKING ON?
Khâos: Right now we are basically promoting the debut album "Essence Without Light" and trying to reach as many people as possible with our music. We are also moving forward with our record label, Bat Zuge Records and we are currently negotiating with a couple other bands to sign them to our label.
MR: ANY GIGS COMING UP?
Nÿx: It would be a dream come true to find people to play live but at this time the bands only members are Khâos and I, so this makes it impossible to play live shows.
MR: WHERE DO YOU SEE THE BAND IN A YEAR FROM NOW?
Khâos: The future for Raven X is a little uncertain. We would like to eventually complete a live lineup to perform shows, but at this time it is not the priority. We have some ideas started for the next Raven X album and we will probably start pre-production for the next album in the fall.
MR: WHERE CAN PEOPLE FIND YOUR MUSIC?
Raven X: Our bands pages can be found virtually on all of the social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Reverbnation, etc. Also, the Raven X debut album "Essence Without Light" can be found at all of the following links:
